School Violence on the Rise – How can we help prevent school shootings?

School Violence on the Rise – 2018 was the worst year on record for gun violence in schools, and 2019 isn’t looking much better. How can we help prevent school shootings?

Schools saw 279 violent incidents during the 2017-18 school year, up from 131 the previous year, according to a study by the Educator’s School Safety Network, a national non-profit school safety organization.

Cities, Schools and Police Departments need to be more pro-active now than ever before. Thinking outside the box is key and using all the tools at your disposal is a must.

  1. Community Involvement with the Students
  2. Intelligence – backgrounds, homes, undercover, etc.
  3. Properly Trained School Community Policing Officers
  4. Community Involvement – Faith-based groups, PTA, Businesses, etc.
  5. The Physical Part of School Safety – Doors, locks, cameras, etc.
  6. Government Policies

All six subjects above are key to helping make your school the safest it can be. Are you doing everything possible to help protect the people under your care?

Cities, Schools and Police Agencies need to understand how to connect with the community. The most important aspect of protecting a community is breaking down the “Us Against Them” mentality some communities have with the police, teachers or authority. Doing it right could be the difference between a school shooting or catching a disturbed person. Be pro-active, not reactive. Call us for lectures, training and seminars on all topics above.
